Why reminders support executive functioning
Notifications are external cues that reduce the need for memory and willpower. They help with:
- Initiation – Nudges make it easier to start
- Time awareness – Structured reminders support pacing and transitions
- Cognitive offloading – Less to track in your head
- Sensory clarity – Custom sounds help prioritize attention
How to get the most out of notifications
- Keep Motivational reminders on for light encouragement
- Pick sounds that stand out but won’t overwhelm you
- Start small — if you get notification fatigue, just use one or two that truly help
- Switch it up if reminders start feeling invisible — it’s okay to pause or reset them
